  • Edward Weston
  • 'CYPRESS - POINT LOBOS'
  • Gelatin silver print
mounted, signed, dated, and editioned '2/50' in pencil on the mount, titled and inscribed 'To Ruth, after a day on Point Lobos, from Edward,' in pencil on the reverse, 1934, no. 2 in a projected edition of 50 (Conger 799)

Provenance

Gift of the photographer to photographer Ruth-Marion Baruch, wife of Pirkle Jones, circa 1945

Condition

This early print, on paper with a surface sheen and on a slick white mount, is in generally very good to excellent condition. In raking light, a few very faint scratches, tiny deposits of original retouching, and shallow, faint indentations are visible. None of these detracts from the overall attractive appearance of this print.
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion.
NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING CONDITION OF A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD "AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF SALE PRINTED IN THE CATALOGUE.
