mounted, signed in pencil on the mount, annotated in ink and with the photographer's '131 - 24th Avenue San Francisco' studio label (BMFA 6), with typed title and date and annotation in pencil, on the reverse, 1942, probably printed before 1960 (400 Photographs, p. 224; Ansel Adams at 100, pl. 102)

This photograph, on a slick, off-white mount, is in generally excellent condition. Upon close examination, the following are visible: a few deposits of original retouching; a tiny black deposit of indeterminate nature in the right portion of the sky; a few linear scratches and scuffs that are only visible in raking light; and 2 soft creases along the right print edge and corner. None of these disturbances are noticeable when viewing the print at a normal distance and do not detract from the overall fine print quality. There is light soiling along the upper edge of the mount and the corners are bumped. On the reverse of the mount, there are very light rust-colored droplet deposits of indeterminate nature. Also on the reverse, Adams wrote in pen 'Adams - NJ - 1 - NPS - 137.' The original written date on the label was 'CA. 1948' in ink. An unidentified hand crossed out this date and wrote '1942' in pencil. Also annotated on the label in an unidentified hand in pencil is 'Credit U. S. O. 1.'
