This work is in very good condition. The canvas is not lined. There is pale surface soiling. There are a few areas of surface abrasions, particularly along the lower edge of the work. Some minor surface abrasions along the lower right edge. There is evidence of the stretcher bar along the left edge. Framed.

Catalogue Note

Piero Dorazio was born in 1927; he was of the generation of Italians who grew up under Mussolini's Fascist regime and came of age in the devastation and psychic anguish which was the Italian legacy of World War II.  He experimented in painting in a Post-Impressionist style for only a very brief period at the beginning of his training, before abandoning the figurative altogether and embracing abstraction, which would be the beacon of his creative endeavours for his entire mature career.

Dorazio's career path was a study in logical development and brilliant improvisation, as were his paintings.  In the late 1940s and early 1950s, gestural abstraction gave way to geometry, and the severity of the early geometric works yielded to sensuous rhythms. Come Mi Pare (1968), painted on a canvas more than three meters broad, is a visual essay in color values, tonal combination and the exploitation of thin white seams that separate fields of color, enhancing the chromatic beauty of e🧔ach field and assembling them all into a triumphant composition.
