Nineteenth-century quarter red morocco, marbled boards, spines lettered gilt, marbled endpapers, green silk markers; spine of vol. 1 rubbed and smudged, upper hinge cracked, green silk marker in vol. 2 loose. Talvart, VI:6. — Hérodias. Paris: A. Ferroud, 1892. In 8s. Half-title, title-page printed in red and black with engraved vignette by Champollion after Georges Rochegrosse, 20 engravings by Champollion after Rochegrosse in 2 states (the first state mostly with culs-de-lampe; light occasional spotting or toning. Full orange morocco by René Kieffer, inlaid cornerpieces of closed and open lotus blossoms on both covers, connected by inlaid bars of brown morocco edged in gilt, spine lettered gilt and inlaid with a lotus blossom, gilt ruled doublures and guards of an elaborate gold and brown floral brocade, pink pastel pastepaper endpapers in a swirling cloud-like pattern, top edge gilt, original wrappers bound in; wrappers toned.
