Catalogue Note
First edition, inscribed by Heller on title. A polarizing debut that Heller worked on for eight years, it won no awards at the time but is now widely acknowledged as one of the great novels of the century. Though Heller originally considered other titles (Catch-11 and an early excerpt was titled Catch-17), the final title introduced into the English language a perfect shorthand phrase for bureaucratic absurdity and logical paradox.
