In 1969, Etrog was working on a maquette for a sculpture which he called Voiovod, a Romanian name for a leader orꦇ tribal head.  While at work, he heard the news of the deat🍌h of the great musician, Louis Armstrong.

When he finished the sculpture, he titled it Homage to Louis  in recognition of a man whom he had admired for many years.  A cast was then exhibited in Toronto, and was seen by the owner of this lot, who commissioned Etrog to make the same sculpture in black marbl🌺e.
