Provenance
Sale, Vienna, Dorotheum, 2 June 1993, lot 124 (as by Pieter Gerritsz. van Roestraten);
Private collection, Lyon, France.
Private collection, Lyon, France.
Condition
The canvas is relined. To the naked eye the paint layer appears to be in good condition with no major losses or damages. Some of the brighter hues, most notably the whites are dirty, though the entire paint layer may be dirty and could benefit from a light cleaning. UV light shows an older varnish which has been applied somewhat unevenly, most notably in the background. Some scattered retouches are visible, though they are almost entirely in the background and some may actually be some discolored varnish. The main still life elements appear to be in very good condition. With a light clean and fresh varnish this picture could be ready to hang. In a carved and giltwood frame.
