There is an old, very thin glue relining. under extremely dirty, discolored old varnish. an old horizontal canvas seam or crease can be seen near top (as visible in catalogue image). the paint surface has been pressed in the aforementioned relining and canvas weave is visible in some areas. an old filled loss can be seen at center between figure of Christ and Holy Ghost, and a couple more in clouds under putti at center. scattered scuffs and surface scratches and some paint losses along upper edge. under UV: it is impossible to see anything through the dirty varnish.

Catalogue Note
This painting relates to a fresco by Gaulli of circa 1671-72 in the lunette of the Altieri Chapel in Santa Maria Sopra Minerva, Rome. The fresco was commisioned by Pope Clement X as part of the redecoration of his family chapel. A bozzetto, formerly in the Massimo collection, is now in the Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Antica, Rome (oil on canvas, 50 by 98 cm.).
