Condition
The panel is flat, stable, and cradled. The panel is comprised of two pieces of wood brought together by a single vertical join Overall this handsome portrait presents a strong image to the naked eye. Overall it is in good condition though it does have some restoration. UV light reveals some retouches along the panel join, which runs partially through the figures eye and forehead. Also visible under UV are a couple of small retouches in the figures face. The right portion of the background is in very nice state, while the left appears to have either a different varnish, or retouches which are difficult to decipher. The black drapery also appears to have some scattered retouches, with a few more prominent in the right arm. In a carved and giltwood frame.
