Condition

Painted on cream wove paper mounted on canvas. Overall the work presents a rich and lively impasto. The sheet is buckling near the upper left and lower left corners, and in the few places where paper is visible the sheet appears time-darkened. The artist's pinholes are visible at the upper corners. There is some minor rubbing to the extreme upper right and lower right corners. A 3 in. vertical tear is present on the side of the depicted building, approximately six inches above the figure at the lower right. Under UV light: An area of inpainting approximately 1 in. in diameter fluoresces at 10 in. from the right edge and 1 in. below the top edge, in the painted sky. There appears to be a pool of varnish at the bottom of the lower right quadrant that is somewhat difficult to read through. Overall the work is in good condition.
