Catalogue Note
Marc Chagall began creating biblically-themed work after his first trip to Palestine with Bella in 1931. Although he had always been fascinated by religious texts growing up, Chagall's trips to modern-day Israel allowed him to develop a biblical narrative in his oeuvre which is evidenced in Salomon sur son trône. Tဣhe artist reflected: "Since my earliest childhood I have been captivated by the Bibl♎e. It has always seemed to me the greatest source of poetry of all time. Ever since then I have sought its reflection in life and art. The Bible is like an echo of nature, and this is the secret I have tried to convey."
