The canvas has not been lined though is slightly buckled on its stretcher toward the top right corner. The surface is covered with a layer of unevenly yellowed varnish which is apparent to the lighter pigments of the sky. There are signs of paint shrinkage to the yellow and purple pigments to the central foreground, and there are some signs of frame abrasion to the extreme outer edges, for example along the lower left edge. Under UV light: certain pigments fluoresce but no signs of inpainting are apparent.
