Condition
The canvas has been lined and is covered with a thick layer of varnish and a thin layer of surface dirt. There is very insignificant frame abrasion visible to a few places along the extreme outer edges, for example the lower left edge just above and to the left of the signature. There is some very gentle buckling to the upper corners visible only in raking light. Stretcher bar marks are just barely perceptible toward the outer edges of the composition. Under UV light: the thick varnish is difficult to read through, but there is a 1/4-inch repair within the sky at the center of the upper right quadrant of the composition. There are also two very small strokes of inpainting within the field at lower center, the larger of which measures approximately 1/8 inch and is located between the church and the bottom edge of the canvas. The work is in generally good condition.
