Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion. Prospective purchasers are reminded that, unless the catalogue description specifically states that a stone is natural, we have assumed that some form of treatment may have been used and that such treatment may not be permanent. Our presale estimates reflect this assumption.

Catalogue Note

A similar style to the bent nailhead watch is illustrated in Boucheron: Four Generations of a World-Renowned Jeweler, Gilles Néret, p. 140, described as 'Another (wristwatch), more elaborate example in platinum and diamonds takes the form of a bent nail(-head); the rectangular head is held on the wrist by a diamond-set slip-knot.  The watch itself, lodged in the side of the nail, is almost invisible unless the wrist moves.' Although the wristwatch being sold here is unsigned, it characterizes the style created by Boucheron.
