Catalogue Note
Daniel Brush began his career as a painter, but later turned his hand to working with gold. Fascinated by ancient techniques and challenged by the technical problems of metal, Brush began to think like an ancient goldsmith. Shunning modern technology, he made his own tools from bone, wood and stone, and refused to cast any of his objects. Responsible for some of the most imaginative and original jewels and objects made in the last two decades, Brush works in the manner of an artisan from a different era, producing very few objects each year and personally overseeing every detail of his creation.
