Condition

The board is sound. There is a very small hairline crack, along the right-hand side of the upper edge, approx. 1cm. long, only visible upon close inspection; otherwise the work appears in good original condition with strong passages of impasto. Under ultraviolet light there appear to be two specks of retouching, one in the upper left corner and the other near the upper right corner. Held in a simple wood frame. Catalogue Note

Lowry lived in Pendlebury, an industrial suburb of Salford, for almost forty years. The present work was, however, painted twelve years after he left the area to live out the rest of his years in Mottram-in-Longdendale, Cheshire, but it recall the farms that are now long gone, submerged by the growing cities.
