Provenance
Private Collection, Genoa.
Condition
The tone of the original is a little less yellow than it appears in the catalogue illustration.
The canvas has an old relining and the paint surface is secure and in good condition with thick chunks of impasto under a dirty varnish. Inspection under UV light is impeded by the aforementioned varnish although some minor retouchings do fluoresce.
Offered in an octagonal gilt wood frame in good condition with some minor losses.

The attribution to Castiglione was first proposed by Professor Federico Zeri in a certificate dated 9 March 1993. The work is filed in the Zeri Archive under cat. no. 58718 where it is dated circa 1650-55.
