Description
- Bartolomeo Cavarozzi
- Saint Catherine
- oil on canvas
Provenance
Private collection, Lisbon.
Condition
The canvas has recently been relined, cleaned and restored. There is an old seam or join in the canvas 33 cm in from the left hand side, with an old repaired 30 cm horozontal tear at the level of the saint's wheel. Inspection under ultra violet light reveals repairs to a heavy concentration of old damages and tears scattered throughout the entire picture surface. All areas are affected by this, but the saint's red robes are probably the best preserved area. The restoration has been well carried out and the picture is not in need of further attention. The varnish is clear and even.
Offered with a parcel gilt and painted wood frame.
