Condition
The support appears to consist of three vertical panels cradled to the reverse. There are some signs of old damage and lifting in the paint surface which is now secure, most noticeably in the darks of the far left two attendants' robes and in the dark bed covering. Inspection under UV light reveals scattered retouching work throughout most notably in the aforementioned dark areas in particular the back left attendant and in the red sleeve of the figure lower right holding the virgin.
Offered in a gilt wood frame in fair condition

Catalogue Note
Post (see Literature) draws particular attention to the brocaded back curtain and the carved designs of the bed which are reiterated in other works given to the master, not least those representing the Epiphany and a seated effigy of Isaiah that were also formerly part of the Parcent/Hohenlohe collection. A companion panel from the same altar, depicting the Adoration of the Magi, was also in the Parcent/Hohenlohe collection and sold at their sale at Sotheby's in 1979.
