Condition
The support consists of a single uncrdaled oak panel, which is quite flat and bevelled on all but the bottom edge. There is an old(?) addition of 1.5 cm to the bottom edge. The panel has been quite recently restored (1965?) and is in good overall condition. Inspection under ultra-violet light reveals areas of meticulous touching out across the wood grain in many parts of the sky, in the foreground, especially below the join, and to the trees on the left of the picture. Much of this is probably to disguise wear but much may be superfluous for the central areas are well preserved and their finer details often intact. The restoration has discoloured slightly and the varnish layer is now a little patchy and uneven.
Offered in a composite gilt frame in the French style in good condition.
