Condition
The catalogue illustration is too pale in tone. The support consists of a single panel, which as an old repaired vertical split running form the top edge through the sitter's face to the bottom edge. Under ultra violet light substantial restoaration is visible around this split, including the whole of the upper curtain, the right side of the face, all of the grey tunic, both hands and the cloak below. In addition to this there has been careful retouching to the hair and sleeves and small details of the background. The restoration has discoloured slightly and is now visible upon close inspection. The varnish is now a little uneven.
Offered with a later ebonised Dutch style frame with gilt sight edge in good condition.
