Description

  • Johann Baptist Drechsler
  • A still life of roses, tulips, anemones, bluebells and other flowers in a vase, in a stone niche
  • signed and dated lower left: Joh.DrechslerF/ 1796.
  • oil on canvas

Condition

The canvas has been relined, but this has not overly flattened the paint surface, which is clean, secure and in good condition. The colours and brushwork of the painting are well-preserved. No major damages are apparent to the naked eye. Inspection under UV light reveals minor scattered spot retouchings to the periphery of the work and a handful of scattered spot retouchings to the flower arrangement, with more concentrated areas of retouching to the red tulip far right and the upper right hand corner. The latter is presumably in response to an old knock. Offered in a modern gilt wood and plaster frame in good condition, if a little rubbed.
