The canvas is unlined and has come away from the stretcher along the upper margin. The paint surface is somewhat flat but secure and the colours of the work are well-preserved. A fine craquelure runs throughout. There is some frame abrasion along the lower and left hand margins, and a horizontal stretcher mark of approximately 20 cm. to the centre of the painting. There are two small areas of paint loss to the upper left hand margin and the upper margin and a glue like substance seems to have sprayed onto the right hand surface of the painting. No major damages to the work are apparent. A small stretch of retouching to the decollate of the mother, approximately 2cm. in length, is visible to the naked eye due to discolouration. Inspection under UV light confirms this area of retouching and further reveals just a handful of scattered retouchings and strengthenings to the figures and background. The paintings appears to be largely untouched. Offered in an ornate gilt wood and plaster frame in good condition.
