STRUCTURE
The canvas has been lined. There is one small patch, lower left, verso, with corresponds to some minor retouching mentioned below.
PAINT SURFACE
The painting appears to be in very good condition. There is no apparent damage or loss of paint except for a minor repaired tear measuring approx. 1cm. by 1cm. in the lower centre, parallel with the sitter's knee and visible only in a raking light. There is a very minor, superficial scratch on the right hand side, in the background.
ULTRAVIOLET
Examination under ultraviolet light reveals minor retouching to the tear mentioned above, as well as scattered minor retouching overall in the background, and strengthening to the costume. There is a thin, discoloured and opaque varnish overall, and the flesh tones appear to be largely untouched.
FRAME
Held in a gilded wooden frame.
