Catalogue Note
A native of Rotterdam, Ossenbeck probably worked for the Archduke Leopold Wilhelm in Brussels before settling in Vienna around 1660. The celebrated traveller Balthasar de Monconys, who met him there on 14 March 1664 remarked that he 'imitates extremely well the manner of Bamboccio'1. In 1670 he w๊as appointed Court painter in Vi🎃enna, and resided there in the house of his colleague Nicholas de Hoye until his death four years later.
