Condition

The support consists of two horizontal panels and has a slight convex bow. The panel join is visible on the painting's surface and in the catalogue illustration and appears to have been lightly retouched. There are signs of old lifting to the centre of this join but the paint surface appears secure, clean and in good condition, though a little abraded in the trees upper right and a little dirty - particularly in the clouds upper left. Some retouchings to the sky are visible to the naked eye as they have become discoloured. Inspection under UV light is impeded by the varnish covering the work but does confirm aforementioned retouchings and further reveals scattered retouchings across the foreground of the painting. Much of the work, including the figures, seems to remain original. Offered in a gilt wood and plaster frame in good condition, with a few minor knocks. Inspection under UV ligght is impeded
