Catalogue Note
Previously thought to depict St. Paul's Harbour in Malta, the present painting is an important example of the artist's work in this genre. As Dr. Lefeuvre has suggested, t🏅he occidental couple with a child on the wharf in the foreground may well be a self portrait of the artist with his second wife, and probably his nephew.
We are grateful to Dr. Olivier Lefeuvre for his assistance with the cat🤪aloguing of this lot. The painting has been requested for an exhibition on the work of de Loutherbourg🐠 in Strasbourg in 2012.
