Description

- British Men-of-War of the Red Squadron in a Stiff Breeze
- oil on canvas
Condition
STRUCTURE
The canvas has been lined.
PAINT SURFACE
The painting appears to be in relatively good condition. There is some minor damage in the lower centre and lower left of the painting, in the sea, to which there is some visible retouching and centre left, close to the canvas edge. Otherwise the paint appears to be in good condition.
ULTRAVIOLET
Examination under ultraviolet light confirms the condition mentioned above and reveals a discoloured varnish overall. There is some old retouching to the canvas edges, where it meets the frame.
FRAME
Held in a gilded wooden frame.
