Description
- Mario Giacomelli
- SELECTED ITALIAN IMAGES
- 3 gelatin silver prints
a group of 3 photographs, including Scanno, La Buona Terra, and Io non ho mani che mi accarezzino il volto (Priests), each signed in ink and 2 stamped and with annotations in pencil on the reverse, 1957-66, probably printed in the 1970s (Giacomelli, pp. 7 and 42; Phaidon, pp. 213, 231, and 295) (3)
Provenance
Acquired from Douglas Mellor, Philadelphia, circa 1980
Condition
These prints, on double-weight paper trimmed to the images, and with a slight surface sheen, are in generally excellent condition.
Scanno - There is emulsion loss on the tips of the two left corners, and there is tiny chipping at the upper left edge of the print. When examined under high raking light, a fingerprint is visible near the center, as well as an extremely faint linear scuff. The reverse of this print is signed in black ink, stamped with the photographer's '60019 Senigallia, Via Mastai, 24' studio stamp, and has the following annotations in pencil: '1962' and '#52.'
Io non ho mani che mi accarezzino il volto (Priests) - As is sometimes seen with Giacomelli's prints, the edges are slightly rubbed, and there is minor lifting or chipping of the emulsion at the edges and at the tips of the corners. There are two pin-point-sized deposits of indeterminate nature on the reverse. The reverse of this print is signed in ink, and the annotation, 'PL. 10, 1968,' is in pencil.
'La Buona Terra' - As is sometimes seen with Giacomelli's prints, the edges are slightly rubbed, and there is minor lifting or chipping of the emulsion at the edges. When examined in raking light, there is a small deposit of indeterminate nature, likely original retouching, near the lower left edge. The reverse of this print is signed in ink, has the title stamp in green ink, and the photographer's '60019 Senigallia, Via Mastai, 24' studio stamp, as well as the following annotation in pencil: '#219."
