Description

  • Edward S. Curtis
  • AN OASIS IN THE BADLANDS
  • gelatin silver
warm-toned, signed in ink and blindstamped on the image, flush-mounted, framed, 1905 (Taschen, p. 142)

Condition

This early print, on matte-surface paper with a surface texture, is in generally very good condition. There is some darkening and discoloration in the sky area. In raking light, faint silvering is visible in the dark areas of the print. In the upper right quadrant of the sky, a tiny lighter area is visible, possibly in the negative or a very minor surface abrasion to the print. On the reverse of the mount there are areas of brown discoloration, likely a result of a previous wood frame backing. 'Stearns 1735' is written in an unidentified hand in pencil on the reverse of the mount.
