Description

the first with bloodstone crop handle, the collar applied in rose diamonds: 17.1.1831-1901, rattan handle, 28.5cm, 11 1/4 in; another, tapering stained blue hardstone with crystal frills and tortoiseshell shaft, 35.5cm, 14in; another, with tapering cased gold handle applied with a jewelled insect, tortoiseshell shaft, 25.5cm, 10in; and four other examples in gold-topped horn, rocaille silvered metal, German porcelain and cased onyx and cased tortoiseshell topped with an onyx and faceted crystal ball, 3.5 - 26cm, 1 3/8 - 10 1/4 in
Provenance
The first was a 70th birthday present to Archduchess Elizabeth Francesca of Austria (17 January 1831-1903), who married firstly Archduke Ferdinand Charles (1821-1849) and secondly Archduke Charles Ferdinand (1818-1874).
Condition
All would benefit from professional cleaning; the third item is cracked across the tortoiseshell shaft ; silvered metal handle is very worn
