covered in 19th century chintz and strung with amaranth and with a paper label inscribed in ink Château de Rosny, boudoir gôthique de l apt. du Roi, tabouret de pieds, e*** together with a smaller upholstered walnut and boxwood strung mahogany stool, 19th century (2)
Catalogue Note
Since 1824 the Duchesse de Berry had clearly opted for light-coloured furniture and consequently broadened the number of her suppliers. In June 1824 Jacob-Desmalter delivered the present footstool together with a pair of meridiennes to Rosny.
On the famous watercolour by Garneray (illustrated on p.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) the reading Duchesse is illustrated resting her feet on a footstool very similar to the ones offerend in this lot.
