Condition

The canvas has been relined. The paint surface is clean and secure, under a thick, glossy varnish. There is a diagnonal surface scratch of approximately 7cm. at the top left hand corner. There is some abrasion in the brown tones of the painting. Inspection under UV light is impeded by the varnish, but reveals fairly extensive, scattered, spot retouchings throughout the painting, as well as strengthenings to the sitter's chair back and table. Offered in a gilt wood and plaster frame in fair condition.
