The canvas has been relined. There is a 5cm repaired tear in his coat near his right hand with associated retouching, and scattered strokes of retouching elsewhere, including around the left of his forehead and in his hair. There is some fine craquelure, notably in the skin tones. The work is ready to hang. Held in a decorative gold-painted carved wood and plaster frame.
