  • inscribed u.c.: famiglia Lavy; further inscribed with the sitters name and dated l.c.: 1793
  • black ink on laid paper, laid down onto blue laid paper, gold boarders
  • Frame 32.2 by 45 cm; 12 1/4 by 17 1/2 in.
including portraits of Zia Franchina (1732-1797), Carlo (1765-1812), Paola (b. 1772), Giovanni (1774-1847); Filippo (1776-1851) and Amedeo (1777-1864)

Condition

The work has generally been well preserved. There is some minor staining to the sheet and there are small areas of surface dirt. There are two very small losses to the paper. The blue backing-sheet has discoloured slightly.

Catalogue Note

The Lavys were a family of engravers and medallists active in Turin at the end of the 18th Centry. The sons Carlo, Giovanni, Filippo and Amedeo were each employed at the Roꦐyal Mint, where their father Lorenzo Lavy (1720-1789) had worked since 1750.
