Condition

The canvas has been relined. The signed paint surface is clean and secure and the detail of the work is well-preserved. There is a small area of paint loss on the right hand edge within the leaves of the tree, and a very small point of loss in the clouds on the left hand side. There are signs of abrasion in the dark browns of the painting in the lower left hand corner. Inspection under UV light reveals extensive retouchings along the left hand margin of the painting, and some scattered retouchings in the sky, but otherwise small scattered spot retouchings, with the foreground of the painting remaining largely untouched. Offered in a carved gilt wood frame in good condition, with a few minor losses.
