Description
- Portrait of a Queen, seated three-quarter length
- inscribed by later hand on the stretcher: TERESIA di CAMPOFRANCO
- oil on canvas
Condition
The canvas has an old relining and is offered unframed. There is some paint loss around the very edges of the painting where the original canvas has frayed.
The paint surface is secure, bar an area just above the tassel in the background and above the sitter's head which seem a little uneven prone to lifting. There are a few minor paint losses along a possible old canvas join which runs the full length of the canvas approximately 8cm. in from the right hand margin. Some areas of the painting shows signs of abrasion and the paint surface is under an old varnish.
Some old retouching work is visible to the naked eye in the sitter's red cloak and the sky. These retouchings are confirmed by inspection under UV light, which also reveals fairly extensive retouchings to the background, a few further retouchings to her bodice, and some older retouchings to the sitter's face and décolleté.
