Catalogue Note

Another pair was realised by Martin-Guillaume Biennais in 1807 for the wedding of Jerome Bonaparte, Napoleon's brother, King of Westphalia, with Katherine of Würtemberg, see Christie's Geneva, 13 November 1995, lot 193. Napoleon was seduced by the refined quality of Biennais's silver and made official goldsmith to the Emperor. The goldsmith prouldy then engraved his pieces with the inscription Biennais Orfèvre de LL.MM Imperiales et Royales et de LL. MM. Le Roy de Hollande et de Westpahlie.
