Catalogue Note
Halbthurn Castle was bought in 1765 by Empress Maria-Theresia of Austria and given to her daughter Marie-Christine on the occasion of her wedding to Prince Albert of Saxony, Duke of Teschen. In 1895 Archduke Friedrich of Austria-Teschen inherited the castle which soon became his favourite country estate during the summer where he hosted glamourous balls and shoots. His daughter Maria-Anna married Prince Elias of Bourbon-Parma in 1903. Descendants of Archduke Friedrich Austria-Teschen still reside in Halbthurn castle today.
