set against an architectural background, representing the Blachernae church, showing in the centre the icon of the Vladimirskaya Mother of God, beneath her on the altar the relic of the robe of the Mother of God, standing on the left the Patriarch of Constantinople his hands raised in prayer, together with a group of church dignitaries, standing on the right the Byzantine Emperor Leo, his hands also raised in prayer followed by noblemen
Condition
With extensive 19th century overpainting and modern retouching, a vertical split running through the panel on the left side of the Vladimirskaya icon, the silver-gilt basma is modern
