Catalogue Note
Being citizens of the capital city for centuries, Beijing people's dining tables are always full. However, only the images of a burnished bronze pot and a stout bean-cheese jar linger in the artist's mind. Instead of depicting a table full of dishes, Wang Yidong aptly paints only few objects here, leaving questions to the viewer's imagination. The plain but actually jar🀅ring and vivid chopsticks and red strings act nothing more than a reminder to the audience: "Simꩲplicity is the key to happiness."
