Condition
The following report has been prepared by Simon Parkes Art Conservation: This painting has been recently restored. The canvas has been lined with a non-acidic reversible adhesive (Beva-371) and the tacking edges are all intact. The paint layer retains its original texture and there is no abrasion to even the finest details of the work. The reasons for the lining are two structural damages in the sky – one is a 2 inch long horizontal break in the upper right and the other is an approximately 2 1/2 inch vertical. There is another spot of loss between these two breaks and there are 3 or 4 small restorations in the water in the lower right. Apart from a couple of tiny random spots elsewhere there is no other restoration. The restoration is well-matched and successful and this painting should be hung in its current condition.
