Catalogue Note

A.S. Frere-Reeves (1892-1984) was a director of William Heinemann from 1925, the managing director from 1932 and president of the firm from 1961. Greene dedicated The Comedians to him in 1966. His obituary in The Times on 6 October 1984 described him as “…one of the last of the great personal publishers who played a dominant part in the publishing scene… He was devoted to Graham Greene with whom he had a close and affectionate friendship…"
