all 12mo (160 x 95mm.), titlepages in red and black, uniformly bound in contemporary red morocco, gilt, covers with gilt borders of foliate rolls and crown motif corner-pieces, spines gilt in compartments, edges gilt, marbled endpapers, five volumes with vellum tags, library stamps on titlepages, some pages with contemporary duty stamps, occasional light dampstaining and browning, hinges worn in places, some wear to bindings

Catalogue Note

The collection includes astrological almanacs such as the Merlinus liberatus (by John Partridge) and Richard Parker's Ephemeris (both with figures cast by William Gilbert) as well as the less technical Gentleman's Diary, or the mathematical repository and The Ladies' Diary ... containing new improvements in arts and sciences, and many entertaining particulars designed for the use and diversion of the fair-sex.

The Law Society of England and Wales was founded in 1825, with a library forming part of the original prospectus for the Society, and by 1832 it was housed in its present elegant building on Chancery Lane. The current selection of 22 lots all have library stamps reflecting their history and have been marked to indicate their deaccession from the Law Society’s holdings.
