Catalogue Note

Works of Wordsworth from the library of Samuel Rogers (1763-1855), poet and influential literateur. Rogers thanked Wordsworth for the gift of his works in a letter dated 14 July 1827: "Many & many a time have I resolved to write to you & to thank you for the five precious volumes. They are full of virtue, full of piety, full of wisdom, the wisdom of the heart, & must console you under any circumstances, whenever you lay your head upon your pillow." (Wordsworth Trust, WLMS A/Rogers, Samuel/8). Although neither the Works nor Yarrow Revisited (which is dedicated to Rogers) are inscribed, no other copies are to be found in the sale catalogue of his library. Although not inscribed, the second work is evidently a dedication copy.
