Catalogue Note
Artist's inscription:
I want to write a new poem, but dust covers my table,
The flavor of my pedantic words is bland like water.
White clouds, so pale, where do they come from?
They accompany me as I compose my poems alone in the northern window.
The flavor of wine, sweet and strong, easily turns to vinegar,
As worldly passions face the Mountain of Nine Suspects.
For the time being white clouds form passionless friends,
Like the bright moon and tranquil birds that keep each other company.
On the twentieth day of the eighth month I passed the Daoist Perching Clouds Tower, I was asked to write a poem of the Quiet Studio, which I transcribe here along with a picture [of the studio]. Today a light rain brings a chill. The mountain light covers my table, and I am feeling profoundly inspired. Zan.
