- A FINE YELLOW GOLD, ENAMEL, DIAMOND- AND PEARL-SET WATCH WITH CHATELAINECIRCA 1790
- Pearl, gold, enamel and diamond
- diameter 52 mm
• gilt full plate verge movement, pierced and engraved balance bridge • white enamel dial, Arabic numerals, outer minute divisions, gold serpentine and poker hands • case back with translucent blue enamel over engine-turned ground, central decoration with applied rose-cut diamonds highlighted with a floral border, both bezels set with pearls • dial and movement signed • with a gold and enamel chatelaine and winding key
Condition
Dial in good condition, no visible hairlines hands are mismatched. The enamel to the case back has had restoration to the surround where the enamel meets the edge of case and now discolored, despite this restoration It makes an impressive presentation particuliarly with its original fitted case.
The fitted case is good with only minor distress to leather.

The present lot was previously part of the refined horological collection of Willis R. Michael, who was a prominent member and president of the National Association of Watch & Clock Collectors.
This particularly elegant open faced watch was made by renowned French clock and watch maker, Robert Robin (1741-1799), who counted Marie-Antoinette as part of his clientele. Additionally, one of his many achievements was creating a watch escapement that bears his name.
