Description

  • A YELLOW GOLD AND ENAMEL PAIR CASED WATCH WITH LATER MOVEMENT CIRCA 1790 AND LATER
  • yellow gold and enamel
  • diameter 45 mm
• fitted with a later jeweled nickel lever movement signed Tiffany & Co., no. 84299, circa 1900 glazed cuvette • white enamel dial, Roman numerals, outer Arabic minute ring, gold hands • 18th century case fitted with a polychrome enamel plaque depicting a lady and a gentleman, bezels vari-color gold decorated with foliate swags, paste-set winding crown

Condition

The later movement is running at the time of cataloguing, however it may benefit from a service soon. Dial in good condition. The case heavily tarnished, cracks to the enamel. Apparently formerly pair cased watch and dial circa 1790, customized to a high standard with a circa 1900 movement, with wolf-tooth winding fitted into a custom hinged movement ring which appears to be gold however, no gold marks, hinged and of a very high quality, suggesting that this could have been a family piece customized by a later generation in order to enjoy the outer case.
