Catalogue Note
Featuring a Tropical dial, this Submariner is an attractive and rare version of the famous Ref. 6538 model. This model, also known as 'The Big Crown James Bond' by Rolex collectors, is one of the most sought after Submariners. This lot belongs to the second generation of the Ref. 6538 models, released in the late 1950s. It is referred by scholars to as a 'four line', distinguished by the four lines of printing on the lower half of the dial, '200m=660ft / Submariner / Officially Certified/Chronometer'. It has 'Submariner' in gilt printing to match the gilt outer tracking. It is definitely one of the most sought after variation of the 'Submariner' models from Rolex.
