Description
- Bernard Buffet
- BOUQUET DE FLEURS DES CHAMPS
signed Bernard Buffet and dated 53 (towards lower right)
- oil on canvas
- 100.2 by 73.1cm., 39 1/2 by 28 3/4 in.
Provenance
Galerie David et Garnier, Paris
Acquired from the above by ๊the family of the present owner in the 1950s
Condition
The canvas is not lined. There is a thick layer of varnish through which the UV light cannot fully penetrate but there does not appear to be any retouching visible under UV light. There is some minor paint shrinkage to some of the black pigment and some tiny paint losses to some of the thicker pigments. Otherwise, this work is in overall very good condition.
Colours: Fairly accurate in the printed catalogue, though the background is greener and there is more variation in the bouquet in the original.
